The Punch Bowl Blog Hop: Welcome to Hello, Home, Girl!
Greetings to The Punch Bowl Blog Hop readers and welcome to the Hello Home, Girl blog! Despite the name, all genders are welcomed here! Iβm Felicia, a Dallas-based DIY home decor and renovation enthusiast who loves to share tips for making a home on a tiny budget. Iβm so excited to participate in this virtual Punch Bowl Social and spill a little tea about me!
I am happy to participate in this lovely virtual Punch Bowl blog hop with a diverse group of people of whom I admire. Their eye for design, impeccable taste, and gift with words will be worth a read, so please check out their blogs as well.

My blog beginnings
I started HHG in 2020 after wanting to start a blog for years. If I think back, Iβve always been fascinated with interiors. I also have always been broke. What resulted was an ingenuity to make my spaces pretty! I did not grow up with nice things or heritage pieces. However, I have always had an incessant desire to craft something fun out of whatever I had! I was the kid painting my furniture with craft pant. I didn’t have pictures of celebrities on my wall. Instead, I had my art (and sometimes my friend’s art) on my childhood bedroom walls!
Moreover, with my partner, I purchased my first home in 2019. Like many folks out there, I was super overwhelmed β yet excited β to begin renovations to our first home. However, when researching various projects or even exploring decor styles, I did not find blogs that I believe reflected my mindset. In other words, I didnβt see many people with my budget, my style, nor my type of home being represented. As a result, I sought to be that change I wished to see.
My decor style is, as I have discovered through feedback and research, is boho-eclectic meets maximalism. I have an interest in many design styles, colors, patterns, and textures β so much so that I straddle the line between variety and straight up tackiness! Additionally, I love bargain shopping. So, buying secondhand from thrift stores, garage sales, and surplus stores make up the majority of items in my home. Lastly, I also am a Target lover. Therefore, youβll spot many of their items throughout my home as well (by the way, Opalhouse for the win!). But even if this isnβt your style, many of the tips that I share are versatile for any home decor style!
What to expect from Hello Home, Girl
Hello Home, Girl is for budget-minded people with a desire to take control of their home renovation as much as possible. The blog also informs folks on how to decorate without breaking the bank. Yes, Iβm mentioning money intentionally. So many of us know how it feels to grow up without a bunch of nice things. As a result, we can be clueless on how to create the homes that serve us both practically and aesthetically. I want to assure you that you deserve fabulous digs despite your budget or background!
So hereβs the piping hot tea: there is a TON of work that occurs within a home before you can ever get to the point of decor. Yep β Iβm talking about the not-so-sexy renovations that MUST happen before even hanging a picture on a wall. For example, my dining room project for the Spring 2021 One Room Challenge was all-encompassing. We spent 6 of the 8 weeks of the challenge simply doing drywall installation and texture! People don’t talk about these essential parts in creating a home in realistic terms enough in my opinion. HHG is definitely my way of bringing a light to this!
In conclusion…
If any of my story resonated with you, you can subscribe to get my insights in navigating your way through affordable DIY renovations and/or home decor. And if you are a new homeowner, feel free to read about my experiences to help you transition into this new responsibility. Thus, when you sign up for my newsletter, youβll get the first look at my new posts about these topics as well as exclusive, monthly inspiration in music, visuals, and literature. Hello home, girl!
Sincerely,
Felicia.

Loved reading your story, I think budget and mid range style is where most people fall so they can relate.
Thanks, Maggie! And thank you for organizing the links and creating the graphic for this blog hop. You made the process super easy!
Love this! So much of what’s out there for interiors feels out of reach, and it seems like it’s that way on purpose to keep some strange sense of exclusivity to the industry. Love that you’re blowing the lid off of that notion, and showing that we can all make something of our spaces. Your transparency is a breath of fresh air!
Thank you for those kind words, Carly!
Thank you, Carly! I do agree about exclusivity being a part of design. I have thoughts, so maybe I’ll discuss that in a future post! Thank you for reading and being so awesomely supportive. β€οΈβ€οΈβ€οΈ
Felicia your story resonated so well with me. I met you through the ORC and loved what you were doing. I admired how you took the bull by the horn and happily made (and making) your house into a home. Wishing you all thr continued happiness and plenty good diys your heart could desire. You encourage me to learn more about tools (more than you know). Such a pleasure knowing you.
Wow Jamala! I so appreciate that! The feeling is mutual. Your graciousness, style, and class has been such a beacon for me on Instagram. Your blog is so lovely and is a source of inspiration for me. I loved to roam about and read your old posts. That’s how much of a fan yours I am! Thanks for arranging this blog hop.
Felica I’m so impressed and inspired by you tackling your drywall installation. Amazing! You have such a joyful style and you beautifully combine colors your home.
Thank you, Maria! I really appreciate that. I’ve loved viewing your projects as well. It’s great to connect with lovely people such as you.
Nice to “formally” meet you Felicia! I’m so glad that you jumped right into the DIY pool and that you show the deep down nitty gritty parts of what it means to turn a house into a home!
Cheers to you!
Thanks so much! I have admired your work from afar for a while and am glad to meet you as well. I enjoyed watching your IG lives!
Felicia, first I love your bright and bold style! I think so many people (me included) cannot afford to go out and buy all brand new home decor/furniture. Or just hire workers to come and update/fix things for us. So I love seeing how youβre fearlessly tackling some of the less talked about home projects like drywall as well as showing the pretty stuff too. Loved getting to know about you and glad this blog hop connected us.
Thanks, Linda! I’m so glad we connected via the blog hop. β€οΈ

Enjoyed this post. Itβs true, no one wants to get their hands dirty when decorating a home and good help is costly. Visiting from Jamalaβs blog and will be back to read more. . .
Thank you, Neti, for visiting! I hope to see you soon!
